On Oct.25, the women’s soccer team fell to Quinnipiac University, 2-0.
On Mazella Field, both sides looked great to start as they got the rhythm going fast. Ava Barker and Mya Jackson set the tone by having two shots directly on target but getting denied. However, it showed that the Gaels were applying real pressure and creating opportunities, leaving Quinnipiac scared for what was to come.
This led Quinnipiac to wake up and score not one but two goals. Then the second half came around, which was also run predominantly by Quinnipiac, not giving Iona many chances. Quinnipiac outshot them 10-4. On the other hand, this game was more foul orientated due to the fact that both sides were called for 29 fouls and four yellows were handed out throughout the game.
Iona women’s soccer concluded their season on Oct. 29, with a 4-0 loss to Siena.
Despite the result, there were still moments to be proud of, such as their four direct shots on target, which built momentum until Siena capitalized on Iona’s missed opportunities. The Saints had a good first-half lead because of their persistent possession and deft passing, which resulted in goals in the 19th, 25th, and 34th minutes. Iona tried to close the gap before halftime, but goalkeeper Kalbaugh made two saves for the Gaels while Marissa Graziano, Ava Barker and Victoria Ryan’s late efforts were blocked.
Following the interval, Siena’s pressure led to a turnover that set up the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute. In the 4-0 loss, Savannah Rogers made two stops for Iona in the second half.
With all that being said, Iona did not have the best year, but it also had some games to take away from a build-off because there is still room for improvement, and we saw some of that in this game and in previous ones.
The Gaels conclude the 2025 season with an overall record of 6-10-3 and a 4-6-2 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, missing the MAAC Championship Tournament.
