Students gathered at the Murphy Green on Tuesday, April 7 to pie Greek life presidents for cancer awareness.
Students ruthlessly smeared pies across the presidents’ faces during Tuesday’s activity hour after donating a minimum of three dollars to the Council for Greek Governance’s charity drive, which commits all its proceeds to an organization called Relay for Life. The pies consisted of a paper plate topped with a mound of whipped cream, which were distributed to participants just outside the LaPenta Student Union. The presidents were covered with pies just minutes after the event started. Each president wore a yellow poncho to keep the whipped cream away from their clothes—as best they could.
Pie-a-President, as well as similar charity events organized by the CGG, typically collect $100 in donations, said CGG Vice President Jessica Mazzella. Mazzella also mentioned that the 2026 Pie-a-President is the first of its kind to gather every fraternity and sorority president for the event.
“We’re raising money for cancer, and it’s all around a great event,” said Zeta Kappa Chi President Ryan Guggeri. “And you get to pie your favorite person.”
Pie-a-President is the first event in the 2026 Greek Week, an annual charity campaign hosted by the CGG. Some of its other events include the Newly-Wed Trivia Contest and Walk-a-Mile. The CGC reconvened at 6 p.m. on April 7 to host Are You Smarter Than a Greek? in the Lapenta Student Union. The CGG often hosts multiple events on each day of Greek Week.
“We hope to raise money for Relay for Life because it’s for a good cause,” said Mazzella. “We also hope that by doing it with all of Greek life that it brings together the community and keeps us closer.”
Greek Week is an enduring tradition carried forward by current students, and it is a legacy that contributes to something greater than itself. The CGG will continue to raise money for cancer awareness through unconventional campus events, sometimes at the expense of its presidents’ clean clothes.
