Some know her from dance team, others from the honors program, even more probably know her as the girl asking all the right questions in chemistry class. A generally happy young woman with an infectious laugh, Allyson Moffat is one of Iona’s finest.

Name: Allyson Marie Moffat

Year: Junior

Hometown: Hamilton, NJ

Nicknames: Ally, Allycat

Favorite television shows: Parks and Recreation, Big Bang Theory and Modern Family

What is one activity you do every day?

Talk to a family member.

What activities are you involved in on campus?

Dance Team, Edmund Rice Society and the Honors Program.

What does being a Gael Dancer mean to you?

It means working together with a great group of girls to fulfill a passion for dance. Everyone on the team works so hard and getting to see the improvement from teammate to teammate over the season is really exciting and inspiring.

What is your favorite part of dance team?

Performing! Homecoming is my favorite event, because it’s our first big performance for the whole school. The energy on the team is awesome!

What is your current living situation?

Conese Hall: three years of suite bliss.

Rumor has it; you have an acronym for your dorm room? Care to expand?

ALA-Ally, Lauren, Ali in the triple on the first floor of Conese. We are the three best friends that anyone could have. ALA provides a fun environment in which one can study, laugh and be as unproductive as possible, while surrounded by posters of beaches, flowers and Lindsay Lohan.

What are your feelings about the honors program? Rigorous? Manageable?

The honors program is the reason that I’m at Iona. I can’t say that I love every minute of being in the program because there have definitely been times where I have cursed the humanities classes and, most recently, the thesis work. I, however, can say that I’ve made some of the best friends I have at Iona through the program and that the work is totally manageable. The program has taught me quite a bit, and I have been privileged to work with some really outstanding professors. I love the bubble.

What is your major?

Chemistry with a minor in psychology

What are your intended plans after graduation?

I would love to pack up, dance on a cruise ship, and take it from there. More practically, I will probably go to some type of graduate program, whether it be in law or chemistry. If I don’t go to school, I’ll probably look for jobs in the pharmaceutical field and pursue a Pharm.D. later on.

What are you looking forward to most for the rest of this year?: I’m just excited for the year in general. Time is starting to catch up with me, and I’m realizing how precious these few short years are. I look foward to continuing to spend time with friends and to build more relationships.

What is your go to outfit on any given day?

Well, the dance team would tell you cut-off sweatpants and a sweatshirt. When I’m not at dance team or in sweatpants, I usually wear jean shorts, white Vans and an oversized shirt.

Describe your personal style.

I don’t really think that I have a personal style; I just wear whatever I like. If I’m dressing casually, I’ll wear jeans and a cute top. If I’m getting dressed up, I love wearing heels. Even though I tower over everyone else, heels are my favorite things to wear.

So there you have it. Whether it is dancing for Gael athletes, succeeding in honors and chemistry classes, rocking sweatpants and Vans (separately) or just hanging with friends, Ally Moffat finds the best part of life in every situation. When asked for a quote to sum up the real Ally Moffat, she replied with inspiring words from Emily Dickenson: “Find ecstasy in life; the mere sense of living is joy
