Sophomore Kelvin Najarro loves to post ‘Outfit Of The Day’ photos on Instagram.

He looks to the hashag ‘OOTD’ for inspiration and hopes that other users can find some from his outfits as well.

In this student style spotlight, Najarro talks about frequent fashion crimes, how to avoid them and even gives insight into his fashionable life.

Ionian: If you had to pick someone to be your style icon, who would it be?

Najarro: Sam Smith because of his big statement coats, I love coats. He’ll throw a bold coat over a blazer to create a look that’s classy but effortless.

I: What are your winter ‘go to’ pieces?

N: Peacoat, I tell everyone they need a peacoat. Scarves, I love wearing scarves during this season. If I go outside without one, I feel naked.

I: What are your fashion nightmares for both girls and guys?

N: When girls wear shorts and Uggs whether it be outside or inside, it completely contradicts itself; it’s not fashion forward at all. And for guys, not matching when they throw on whatever is cleanest. They don’t coordinate.

I: How would you describe your style?

N: I am very versatile I don’t wear one specific look. I’ll wear a laid back outfit with ripped jeans and a marvel T-shirt, or dress classy with nice pants and Oxfords. I love to wear my oxfords.

I: What is a celebrity trend that you were weary of trying but did it anyways?

N: Flannel around the waist. I saw celebs doing it and at first I thought, “leave it to them,” but then I gave it a shot. I paired it with combat boots and added a pair of shades to block the haters.

I: Why do you post OOTD (Outfit Of The Day) pictures on your Instagram?

N: With the hashtag OOTD it’s a fun way to vibe off of other trendy people. I love clothes and fashion in general so why not post it too. Hopefully people enjoy what I’m wearing and can get inspired for their own outfits.

I: What is your number one tip to guys and girls this winter season regarding fashion choices?

N: Guys, even though it’s cold and winter, don’t get too lazy. Put some effort in. Keep your looks simple and warm, but coordinated. Girls, keep rocking the boots. Boots are a must. And keep having fun with clothes; don’t let it get too gloomy just because the weather is. Accessorize your outfits with hats, headbands, sunglasses and scarves.
