One of the most exciting parts of living in the dorms while attending college is getting the opportunity to decorate your room.

As soon as you enter your room, it is a fresh start and you are given a blank canvas to style your space however you feel compelled to. Here are some suggestions of dorm decorations while staying on a low-cost budget.

1. Photographs:

A great way to fill up wall space is to find pictures from your favorite magazines and make a giant collage on the wall.

It can be as simple as just lining the pages up almost like wallpaper, to overlapping and cutting out different words or quotes to make it more artistic.

If you’re feeling particularly homesick, print out photos from your Facebook of your friends and family. Use clothes pins and a string to pin the photos to your wall.

2. Table fixtures:

A cheap investment that can really change up the look of your room is buying a tablecloth. Tablecloths are not only inexpensive but come in a variety of colors and patterns that would fit any personality.

It is something so simple that helps give the room a different feel and makes it feel more like home. Display centerpieces on dining room and end tables to spice up a room.

3. Themes:

Pick a color scheme or theme and stick to it. You can mix in throw pillows and matching blankets to make the look more uniform.

Use curtains for both privacy and style, and incorporate bright colors, patterns and textures to bring some life back into your space.

4. Wall fixtures:

Look to stores like Urban Outfitters and Modcloth to find tapestries and posters to show off your personality.

If you can’t find anything you like, don’t be afraid to create your own. Get a blank canvas and some paint, and create your own designs.

The difficult aspect of designing your new empty space is finding inexpensive ways to decorate it while sticking to a college student budget.

These decorating ideas are simple solutions to fill up the blank walls in your dorm rooms while still filling it according to your stylistic desires.
