Nail polishes to complete your spring look

Beauty brands have released their anticipated spring and summer 2015 lines. With so many brands to choose from, who really captured the essence of the season?

Just in time for spring, Essie and O.P.I. released their newest collections of fun, bright colors. While you may be focused on updating your closet for warmer weather, your nails deserve a little TLC as well.

Essie teamed up with fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff, who was named the company’s official color designer to create their new line.

The collection features typical spring colors in saturated polishes of blue-green and teal. This year a distinct twist can be found in the color scheme as the collection includes a grey polish called Petal Pushers – a not so typical springtime hue.

The collection also includes two nudes, Perennial Chic and Picked Perfect. Make no mistake, following application they have an extremely different color payoff.

The color that stole the show was one of the first to hit stores following the collection’s debut – Flowerista. Essie.com describes it as the “hero shade” of the collection.

The color is a vibrant, electric shade of purple or “plum dahlia” and is inspired by “a fashionista who creates who creates her signature style from floral inspired fashions,” according to essie.com

Try this color to complement your floral-inspired outfits or for a more subtle approach, or let Flowerista take center stage and pair it with a simple white tee.

The collection is not sold with a topcoat and the colors leave a milky, creamy finish once dry.

Gel polish advocates need not worry; the collection is available for purchase in this form as well.

O.P.I. released its Hawaii Collection during the harsh cold of February, but it was the perfect preview of the upcoming spring season.

The group of polishes serves as the company’s collection for the spring and summer.

This collection is distinctly different than Essie’s. For one, the shades are in an array of colors, from deep indigos to bright mint greens.

The collection also includes polishes that come in a variety of textures, such as This Color Makes Waves. This polish is a dark, metallic blue with reflective pink flecks mixed in.

A color that particularly stand s out in the collection are Lost My Bikini in Molokini. This polish is a creamy bright purple polish; the color is bold enough to stand out in even the brightest of spring outfits.

To switch things up, add a coat of a mattifying nail polish. You’ll get an even smoother finish without sacrificing the color payoff.

Aloha from O.P.I. is a beautiful vibrant coral with red undertones. It’s the perfect polish to use when transitioning from spring to summer weather, and not to mention it looks amazing with a tan.

Add a few coats of a high-shine topcoat following application to really kick up the colors’ vibrancy.

You can find and purchase either collection, or just some of your favorite colors, at Ulta or a major drugstore.
