ColourPop releases new eyeliner collection

ColourPop recently released its line of crayon and gel eyeliners as a complement to its line of pigmented and affordable lipsticks and eye shadows.

These new eyeliners come in two different types. The first is traditional retractable eyeliner called the Crème Gel Liner, which costs $5. The second is gel eyeliner called Crème Gel Colour and is $6.

Each of these lines comes in 24 different colors, including matte blacks, neutrals, metallic silvers, bright oranges and dark greens.

The prices make both of these liners cheaper than the Maybelline gel eyeliner and the L’Oreal pencil eyeliners. They also have long lasting quality.

Crème Gel Liner comes in a skinny, retractable casing. At the top of the liner is a nub indicating what the color the liner is. The liner itself is skinny, making it easy to create thin lines, and build up to thicker lines and even cat eyes. The formula can be applied smoothly, so there will not be any skips in the liner. While the liner sets quickly, there is enough time to smudge it out for a smoky effect.

Each liner has 0.01 oz of product. To compare, there is 0.04 oz of product in an Urban Decay Glide-On Eye Pencil, which is $20.

The only downside to this product is that there is no way to sharpen it. Because it is retractable, it can’t be sharpened, and there is no “tip sharpener” included, like the NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Retractable Liner ($25). However, because the liner is so skinny, it isn’t a huge issue.

Wear time is 12 or more hours on the lid and six hours on the water line. Usually most eyeliners, when worn on the water liner, or inner rim of the lower lash line, wear off in the first hour or two. These wear evenly throughout the day.

Workout, which is a matte dark green, pairs perfectly with the metallic gold of Get Paid to create an edgy nighttime look. Make a thick cat eye with Workout, extending the wing out towards the tail end of your eyebrow. Then smudge Get Paid underneath the lower lash line.

Crème Gel Colours come in an acrylic pot with a white lid. While the color of the liner isn’t indicated on the packaging, it is easy to look through the bottom of the pot to see what color is inside without taking off the lid.

These gel liners don’t come with their own brushes, but you can try a Sigma E06 brush for easy application.

The formula is soft and easy to pick up on a brush, but sometimes the product can be too pigmented. After using Fast Lane, a dark peacock blue, I had to wash my brush three times before all of the color came out. This scenario may be problematic when switching from a dark to a lighter color.

While the formula is smooth upon application, there is no time to fix mistakes or smudge out the product. The liner dries instantly, which may be nice for those who suffer with transfer throughout the day, but may not be suitable for those starting out with gel liners. The product also starts to look thick and cakey when additional layers are added.

Each pot has .11 oz of product, which is the same as the MAC Fluidline, which costs $16.50.

To create a sunset gradient of yellow, orange and pink, line the inner corner of the eye with Punch, then Puppy and then Boots at the end of the liner. Wearing bright eyeliners like these are the easiest way to incorporate color into an everyday look.

While it may be nice to see colors that don’t typically come in gel liner form, stay away from the Crème Gel Colours. They dry too fast and are too thick for an easy application. The Crème Gel Liners are the real star here and are well worth the $5.
