South Africa brings genocide case against Israel before the International Court of Justice

With the Israel-Hamas War in its third month, South Africa has charged Israel with genocide in the International Court of Justice on Thursday, January 18. South Africa is seeking binding preliminary orders to force Israel to stop its military campaign in Gaza, which South Africa argues is characterized by genocidal intent. “The targeting of family homes and civilians… make clear that genocidal intent is both understood and has been put into practice,” said lawyer Tembeka Ngcukaitobi. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 23,000 people have died, with women and minors making up an estimated two-thirds of those killed.
