Meet the SGA Candidates for 2020-2021 year

Maeve Ellen Wydan: President

My name is Maeve Ellen Wydan and I am running for Student Government Association President. I am currently a sophomore and serve on the executive board as the Vice President for Internal Affairs. I am also on the women’s water polo team. Through my leadership roles the past two years, I have learned a lot about servant leadership and advocacy here at Iona. If I have the privilege to serve as SGA President, my top priority is to be a spokesperson for students to create positive and effective change. I believe my experiences so far have prepared me to take on this new role as President and I am very excited to advocate for students and to make our Iona experience even better! Join the Maeve wave!

AJ Liles: Executive Vice President

My name is AJ Liles and I am running for the position of Executive Vice President for the Student Government Association. I am a current junior of the graduating class of 2021, where the slogan for my campaign is, “Liles Will Continue Going The Miles.” Last year my slogan was “Liles Will Go The Miles” while running for VP for Communication. This was and still is an imperative idea for someone running for any leadership position, which is why I will continue to go the extra miles to represent the student body as a whole. Being involved in many different organizations and clubs on campus through holding different leadership positions – like being the Senator At Large for the LaPenta School of Business last year, being the current VP for Communication this year, being a tutor and more – has rewarded me with many different opportunities that make me a great candidate through experiences for this position.I am a very dependable, hardworking and determined individual. These traits make me qualified to promote inclusion of all clubs on campus for commuters and residents alike through the Leadership Series and Constitutions, Legislative Meetings, Interest Groups seeking active status and more. As the current VP for Communication, I am an active advocator during different committee meetings I hold a position on. I promote inclusion of all students alike on this campus and I will continue to do just that. Vote for me as your Executive Vice President.

Courthney Normil: Vice President for Internal Affairs

Hi, my name is Courthney Normil. I am a sophomore and I will be running for the position of Vice President for Internal Affairs. I feel that I will be the best fit for this position because I have served in an SGA Committee as well as having been a senator for two years. My experience in SGA is something I am grateful for and has opened up many opportunities for me. I chose this position because in the future I want to be a lawyer and lawyers advocate for the people they represent. Advocacy is very important to me because of all of the times that some voices are not heard or left on the sidelines. If given the opportunity to be in this position, I will use my voice to make sure that voices in the committees I am in are heard. It is important that your voices are heard and most importantly listened to. Thank you for the time to read this statement and to all the other candidates in this race good luck! Don’t forget, Toss The Vote To Court!

Matthew Saint-Louis: Vice President for Finance

My name is Matthew Saint-Louis and I am a junior accounting major. I will be running for the position of VP for Finance. In my last year in this role, I was able to really advocate on behalf of the student organizations and help them financially with the planning of their programs. Coupling this with advocating for students on different committees, I hope to continue my impact through another academic year. Everyone wants someone to have their back, so Keep it a Stack, Vote for Matt.

Jayson Fox: Vice President for Administration

My name is Jayson Troy Fox and I am a junior majoring in political science. I currently serve as the Vice President for Administration for the Student Government Association and I look to serve in this role again for the 2020-2021 academic year. During this time as the VP for Administration, I have learned a lot about the great work that SGA does and the numerous ways in which this position is able to effect change. Through working with the Inter-Club Council and helping many clubs and organizations on campus, I have experienced many opportunities to serve and grow as a Gael which I look forward to doing in the future. I served as an orientation leader, I am a member of several clubs on campus and I am a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. I look to serve the Iona College campus and Student Government Association further as your 2020-2021 Vice President for Administration. #VoteFox2020

Mary Crinnion:  Vice President for Communications

Hey y’all. My name is Mary Crinnion. I’m a sophomore majoring in social work and I’m running for the Vice President of Communications for the Student Government Association. This year I am a senator for SGA and it has been a position I very much have enjoyed. As a future social worker, I will have to advocate for the people I serve through my job. But right now I want to advocate for you all. One experience that I have had at Iona that pushes me to apply for this position was being an orientation leader. It taught me the importance of working as a team to make an experience a good one for others and about the impact that your actions can have them. I care about Iona College so much and I want to help make it a better living and learning community for everyone here. As a member of the executive board, I promise to be a voice of reason and to be honest with you all. I will value all of your opinions and ideas and make sure they are heard. The reason that I’m running for this position is because I want to take on larger leadership roles at Iona College. I have been inspired by students, staff, faculty and other student leaders who have all made a big impact on my time at Iona College so far. Please vote Mary Crinnion for SGA Vice President of Communications. Mary Crinnion will help to make the changes you want to see on the Iona campus. Thank you.
