Gaels dominate at Iona Invitational

The Iona men and women swimming and diving teams competed at the Hynes Athletic Center in the Iona Invitational. The men beat St. Francis, while the women were victorious over St. Francis and Sacred Heart, but fell to Wagner.

400 MEDLEY RELAY

The men brought in points with first and second place finishes. The Lady Gaels came in second with a time of 4:07.16.

200 IM

Freshman Brandon Hadhazy finished in second place, while the women placed second through fourth starting with freshmen Mary Ellen Mangione, Cassidy O’Connell, and finishing with Leigh Musselman.

200 BREASTSTROKE

Senior Chris Yacobacci finished first with a time of 2:11.30 and Junior Chris Giovine placed second. Mangoione took second place to tally on to the women’s side.

200 BUTTERFLY

Yacobacci placed first and junior Nick Kotonias came in second, and Senior Victoria Ponzo placed fifth for the women.

50 FREESTYLE

The men dominated and took first through fourth beginning with freshman Thomas Keefe, senior Kristian Bocage, junior Lee Stiles, and sophomore Connor Reid. Freshman Melissa Dorsch took first place for the women.

100 FREESTYLE

The Gaels took first for both the men and women. Junior Justin Grigull finished first and classmate Ryan Bacci came in third. Junior Kerri-Anne Dodenhoff placed first and junior Briggette Dorsch took third in the race.

200 FREESTYLE

Senior Joseph De Leone and junior Tyler Elfert finished first and second.

500 FREESTYLE

Grigull finished first, Kotonias in third, followed by Benoit and Martin for fourth and fifth. Ponzo came in fifth to score for the women.

1,000 FREESTYLE

Freshman Scott Martin placed first while senior Zach Benoit and junior Denis O’Connor finished third and fourth. Senior Kara Nowakowski placed fourth for the women.

400 FREE RELAY

To finish the meet, the men placed first and the women finished first and second.

DIVING

Senior Briana Gongloff won the 1-meter completion with a 191.15. In the 3-meter event, Gongloff came in second, junior Melanie Dilascio third and freshman Alicia Raffle fourth.

The Gaels will compete in the Loyola Invitational in Baltimore, Maryland Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
