Making waves: An interview with dual-athlete Lee Stiles

Where are you from?

Lederach, Pa.

Why did you choose to come to Iona?

I wanted the chance to be able to compete at a Division I level and graduate with a successful business degree.

What are some of your interests/hobbies?

Hanging out with friends and participating in other sports besides swimming.

What’s one thing that not many people know about you?

I am a very talented singer. I have the ability to sing and dance to almost any song.

What’s one word that best describes you?

Resilient.

What’s your favorite food? Favorite pre-game food/drink?

I like to eat candy such as Snickers, and I drink a watered down Gatorade before a race.

What’s your major?

Business, with a concentration in marketing.

How did you get into swimming?

My mom was always afraid I would get hit in sports, and she wanted me to learn how to swim so it was a win-win for her.

What do you enjoy most about the sport?

Racing. It’s all up to you to be successful.

Do you have any pre-race rituals or habits?

Normally I pick a song before each race and I listen to that right before my race.

What are you looking to improve on this season versus your previous two seasons?

My speed right off the block in the 50 and finishing strong overall at MAACs.

What goals do you have for the season/What are you hoping to get out of it (as a team or individually)?

I would like to score in all three [of] my individual events and also make it onto three different relays to help the team the best I can.

What do you find to be the most difficult part of being involved in two sports at Iona?

Being a student. Being away so much doesn’t allow me to participate in as many activities as I would like to.

Where do you hope to be in 5 years?

Happy and in love.
