The Iona College men’s basketball team announced on Sept. 13 that it will made an appearance in the MGM Resorts Main Event Tournament in Las Vegas at the Cox Pavilion.

Iona will play in the Middleweight Bracket, which consists of Long Beach State, Hartford and Utah Valley. The Heavyweight Bracket features Arizona State, Saint Mary’s, Utah State and Mississippi State.

The tournament will run from Nov. 19 to 21 with the Gaels playing against Long Beach State University in the first round. The winner of the Iona-Long Beach State game will play either Hartford or Utah Valley in the championship round on Nov. 21.

The losers in both games will play each other in a consolation game on the same day as the championship.

This will be the first time Iona has played in the MGM Resorts Main Event, which has been around for four years. Prairie View A&M won the last year’s Middleweight title, while UNLV came out on top in the Heavyweight Bracket.
