The title of ‘The Next Mariah Carey’ can put a lot of weight on a girl’s shoulders, but for a singer it’s the highest of compliments. At the prime age of 20, Ariana Grande is charming fans with her graceful yet powerful voice. You may recognize the name from her hilarious role of Cat on Nickelodeon’s “Victorious” and more recently “Sam & Cat.”

Trading in her red-velvet cupcake hair for her natural brunette locks, Grande is stepping away from acting for a bit and turning back to her true passion, singing.

The petite starlet began her career belting out show tunes in the 2008 Broadway musical, “13,” before moving on to Nickelodeon’s line-up of television shows.

In a recent interview with MTV News, Grande admits that her mom classifies her as “a singer who acts on the side.”

Grande said “before Cat she was just Ariana.” She now wants the world to know her yet again as just Ariana.

Fans of Victorious got sneak peeks of her talent when Grande was featured in select songs for the Nickelodeon series. Since then she has been eagerly waiting to give fans the music that she has held in her heart for a while.

“Yours Truly,” the debut album from Grande, released Aug. 30 has since reached number one on iTunes charts worldwide. Capturing the hearts of her fans with a track list of 13 songs about life and love, the album includes an even mix of pop, R&B and ballads showing off her vast vocal range.

Grande’s album is personal, acting as a diary that opens up about boys and romance, which she hopes her fans can relate to.

Grande’s voice isn’t the only one heard on the album. She collaborates with numerous different artists including Mac Miller, Big Sean, Mika and The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes.

Unlike other artists of this generation, Grande’s unique style of music ventures off from the “pop” track but is still catchy enough for one to be caught singing her songs in the shower.

Senior Roselynne Mackay says, “I think Ariana is different compared to other artists. Her classic ballads are reminiscent of ‘90s love songs, where throughout her album you can also distinguish influences from specific eras. She accomplishes making the songs relatable to people today.”

Recently, she has kept busy by opening up for Justin Bieber’s “Believe” tour, as well as going on her own tour, “The Listening Sessions.” She has also shared the stage with Austin Mahone performing at the MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show 2013. Her big voice has earned her performance spots on “Jimmy Fallon,” “Ellen” and “Live with Kelly and Michael.”

“Yours Truly,” Ariana Grande can be purchased on iTunes.
