‘Duck Dynasty’ family takes on fashion world

“Duck Dynasty” star Sadie Robertson made her debut into the world of fashion during this year’s New York Fashion Week. The 16-year-old entrepreneur not only walked the runway, she also worked with designer Sherri Hill to create her own line of prom dresses.

The new line, “Sadie Robertson Live Original,” was featured on Sept. 9 during the Evening by Sherri Hill Spring 2014 show at Trump Tower. Robertson herself modeled two of the gorgeous dresses created for the collection: a floor-length black-and-white polka-dotted ball gown and a short beige dress.

When asked by Fox News about working with the designer Robertson said, “Me and my mother and my grandma went to Sherri Hill’s place and we all picked out ‘daddy approved length.’ She also added a couple of inches to some that we loved but weren’t modest.”

What qualifies as modest in the Robertson family? “It’s got to be long enough: the finger-tip rule,” she told Us Weekly. “Everything modest up here,” she said in reference to the neckline.

The issue of “daddy-approved” clothing has come up for the Robertsons in the past. During season one of “Duck Dynasty,” she struggled to find a dress that her parents, particularly her father, Willie Robertson, approved of.

“Who’s making dresses for school girls these days, 14-year-old boys?” he commented on the show.

Ultimately Robertson is proud of his daughter, but he can’t help worrying about her. He recently voiced his concerns in an interview with Fox News.

“It’s tough. You know, the whole world is different now, so everyone knows who you are. It wasn’t the way we were raised because we were raised really poor so nobody knew who we were. We’ll put it in the Lord’s hands so we’ll see what happens,” he said.

Robertson’s concerns for his daughter could not overshadow the genuine family joy of the evening. In true Robertson form the young star was cheered on by her family while she showed off her collection. Her parents, Korie and Willie, along with her siblings, John Luke, Will and Bella, her Uncle Jep and her Aunt Jessica were all there to support her. And of course, no Robertson event is complete without the notorious Uncle Si.

The family couldn’t have been more thrilled for her.

“We’re so proud and so happy about the partnership with Sherri Hill,” said mom Korie in an interview with Us Weekly. “She’s been awesome. And they’re a family business like we are, so we feel really great,” she said.

The work with Sherri Hill has also brought with it a few unexpected surprises. The young star told Us Weekly, “Some guy came up to me and said, ‘So I know you’re in a prom dress line thing. Do you have anywhere to wear those dresses?’ It was very smooth, so I’m going to prom this year and I’m so excited!”

What are Gaels saying about the young Robertson’s jump into the world of fashion?

“I think it’s great that she’s pursuing her dreams and talents,” said senior Jennifer Dillon.

“I do think that 16 is a little young, but when an opportunity like that comes your way I definitely think you should take it, so I say good for her and she’s blessed to be given that opportunity at such a young age,” said Dillon.

Robertson will also soon be adding “recording artist” to her already impressive resume. She will be adding her voice to her family’s upcoming Christmas album, “Duck the Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas.”

The “Sadie Robertson Live Original” collection will be available with the rest of Sherri Hill’s designs for the spring 2014 season in various stores across the United States.
