Mid-February has a way of sneaking up on people. Whether that means planning a perfect dinner with a significant other or just quietly eating your heart out on Feb. 15 with all of that half-priced chocolate, Valentine’s Day affects everyone.

However, one activity that is sure to calm anyone’s Valentine’s Day anxiety is curling up in front of the television and basking in the glory of the romances of the best sitcom couples ever created. Here are my top ten sitcom couples that are perfect for vicariously living through:

10. Jess Day and Nick Miller, “New Girl”

Nick and Jess are the new kids on the block of sitcom romances, but that still does not take away from the fact that viewers are obsessed with them. It is only a matter of time before they get together for good… right?

9. John “J.D.” Dorian and Elliot Reid, “Scrubs”

Everyone knows that the real love of J.D.’s life is his best friend Turk. However, his romance with fellow doctor Elliot is a close second and still causes viewers to incurably swoon with increased serotonin levels.

8. Roseanne and Dan Conner, “Roseanne”

Everyone loves a classic and Roseanne and Dan sure is a classic couple.

7. Lily Aldrin and Marshall Eriksen, “How I Met Your Mother”

Lily and Marshall are the long-lasting couple that distracts viewers from Barney’s hijinks with cutesy couple high fives and romantic lines. In real life, they would be the couple that annoyed everyone they came across, but on television, they are just plain adorable.

6. Cameron Tucker and Mitchell Pritchett, “Modern Family”

Nothing proves that opposites attract more than Cameron and Mitchell’s relationship. While they seem to fight often, their love for each other and their child always keeps viewers wanting more.

5. Cliff and Clair Huxtable, “The Cosby Show”

Considering all of those fashionably scratchy sweaters that Clair had to withstand for so many years, it is obvious that the love Clair has for Cliff is very, very real.

4. Homer and Marge Simpson, “The Simpsons”

D’oh! Who says that cartoons can’t be romantic? The pair has been married for over twenty years and yet they love each other just as much as day one.

3. Cory and Topanga Matthews, “Boy Meets World”

Nearly everyone wishes for a love story as timeless as that of Cory and Topanga. Maybe that elementary school field trip to the zoo really was a good time to try meeting the love of your life.

2. Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, “I Love Lucy”

The modern sitcom couple would not exist if it were not for Lucy and Ricky’s whirlwind romance. Enough said.

1. Ross Geller and Rachel Green, “Friends”

Even people who never watched an episode of “Friends” in their life know that Ross said Rachel’s name when he married Emily. The names Ross and Rachel have together become iconic, but not quite as iconic as the infamous left phalange.

With couples like these on television, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be the anxiety-ridden and chocolate-obsessed holiday that is once was. To be honest, who really needs plans on Feb 14th when you have cable?
