How to hack: A Gael’s guide to making life easier

The event “How to Hack: A Gael’s Guide to Life Hacking” was led by seniors Dante Butler, Pasquale Gianni and junior Madison Sudano Nov. 13. The event offered ‘life hacks’ or tips to help make students’ day-to-day lives easier.

Here are a few of the tips that were shared:

1. If you’re parking your car in a place you’re unfamiliar with, like New York City, use the maps application on your smartphone to pin where you parked your car if you are in an area you are unfamiliar with.

2. Need to avoid procrastination while working on the computer? Download a self-control program. The program allows you to put in the websites that distract you the most, and once you input them, your usage will be blocked for the duration of time so you can get work done. Go to SelfControlApp.com to find out more.

3. Storing in iron in your dorm room is too inconvenient, and clothing steamers are too expensive. If you need to iron out the wrinkles of your shirt, use the steam from a hot shower to get the wrinkles out of your clothing by hanging it in the bathroom and leaving the door closed.

4. Want to freshen up your space without dousing your room in Febreeze? Put dryer sheets in front of an open fan to help with any unwanted odors in your room.

5. If you feel guilty because you don’t have enough time for exercise during the day, remember that one hour of standing burns about 120 calories. This doesn’t include the time spent walking back and forth between your classes and your dorm.

6. Don’t let counting calories become a source of stress in your life. If you want an easy way to know how to get rid of junk food, avoid eating foods from brands that have a mascot. This includes foods like Cheetos or Frosted Flakes.
