Fall TV lineup will feature fan favorites

Television fans should get their work done early and fire up the DVR. The golden age of television continues this fall as dozens of programs return to keep audiences entertained. Here are the returning shows to look out for:

“American Horror Story”: the popular anthology series made its seventh season debut on Sept. 5 and introduced fans to a cult motivated by the results of the 2016 presidential election. Evan Peters returns in the lead role of Kai, the twisted, blue-haired cult leader inspired by Trump’s victory. Sarah Paulson returns as a woman who is devastated by Clinton’s loss and deathly afraid of clowns.

”The Walking Dead”: The eighth season of AMC’s popular apocalyptic drama promises to keep fans on the edge of their seat. Rick Grimes and his group wage an all-out war on Negan and his cruel band of Saviors. Tom Payne, who plays the role of Paul “Jesus” Rovia, gave Rotten Tomatoes a tease of the upcoming season. “No one is safe, more so in this season than any other season,” Payne said, according to the website. It premieres Oct. 22.

“Stranger Things”: The highly anticipated second season of the sci-fi phenomenon will begin streaming Oct. 27 on Netflix. Millie Bobby Brown will reprise her role as Eleven. According to Digital Spy, Noah Schnapp and Joe Keery, who play Will Byers and Steve Harrington respectively, have been promoted to series regulars. This indicates that we will be seeing a lot more of these characters in season two. The show will continue its homage to the eighties with guest appearances by Sean Astin (“The Goonies”) and Paul Reiser (“Aliens”).

“This is Us”: Viewers who enjoy realistic drama will be excited for the return of last year’s breakout hit on Sept. 26. TV Line confirmed that season two will explore Jack’s childhood and relationship with his neglectful father. Additionally, fans of “This is Us” can watch the 69th Emmy Awards on Sept. 17 to see if the show wins any of the five awards it is nominated for.

“Once Upon a Time”: The popular fairy tale drama will be very different when it returns on Oct. 6. Six of the show’s longtime main characters departed the series and four new series regulars were added. A new curse, however, will keep fans on their toes.

“Scandal”: The final season of the hit “Shondaland” series will join the #TGIT lineup on Oct. 5. “We are going all out,” Shonda Rhimes, the show’s creator, said in a press release. “[We are] leaving nothing on the table.”

The week of Sept. 26 begins a melee of television networks competing for the highest ratings of the night. A whopping 50 shows, both new and returning, are set to premiere. Thrilling dramas such as “Empire,” “Designated Survivor,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How to Get Away with Murder” will all make their anticipated comebacks.

The shows highlighted are simply a few of the many shows set to air this fall. Because there are so many great options, everybody will be able to find a show they like.
