Top video game picks to watch out for this year

The gaming industry had a phenomenal 2017. Games such as “Nier: Automata,” “Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” “Persona 5” and “Cuphead” exceeded expectations and set the precedent for “good games” going into 2018.

This industry shows no sign of slowing down and is set to release a wide variety of high-budgeted AAA games as well as great indies. Here are five games people should look forward to picking up this year.

The sequel to the critically acclaimed “Red Dead Redemption” is set to come out on Oct. 26. In “Red Dead Redemption 2,” gamers will play as main protagonist Arthur Morgan and explore the terrains of the Wild West. While little is known about the game, players should expect western-style gun fights, horse riding and critically acclaimed multiplayer modes that Rockstar Games is now known for.

The next installment to the popular “God of War” franchise will be released April 20. This game takes place years after “God of War 3.” The journey is focused on Kratos getting his deceased wife’s ashes to the holy grounds. In this adventure, Kratos and his son, Atreus, will come across different monsters and challenges. The game plays much slower than its predecessor and is based off of Norse mythology instead of Greek.

“Sea of Thieves” will arrive March 20. It is a first-person open-world game where the player is a pirate in control of a ship. Players will sail around the world, collect loot, fight other pirates and earn money for cosmetic upgrades. The game will be great for multiplayer because four players can be in the boat together as they loot and pillage other players.

The game that people have been waiting about 14 years for may finally be released this year. “Kingdom Hearts 3” will continue where the story of “Kingdom Hearts 2” and the preview game “Kingdom Hearts 2.8” left off. The game will have players exploring Disney worlds with pals Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy as they stop the heartless from taking hearts. It will feature new Disney worlds to explore including worlds inspired by “Big Hero Six” and “Toy Story.” Fans will finally see if 14 years was worth the wait. Stay tuned for this game sometime in 2018.

“Death Stranding” is the highly anticipated game from the Metal Gear developer, Hideo Kojima, and is set to come out this year. Little is known about this game, as the trailers have not revealed much plot or inside into the gameplay. From what gamers have seen, the game looks weird but interesting and it stars Norman Reedus, from “The Walking Dead.” Hopefully, we will see more of this game in the coming months.

Gamers should look out for these games in 2018 and catch up on the games they may have missed in 2017.
