Cardi B releases debut album ‘Invasion of Privacy’

Original Cardi B fans were introduced to the rapper via her flamboyant, comedic Instagram videos and shameless shout-outs to the Insta-famous couture brand, Fashion Nova. Others made sure to tune in during Cardi B’s short – yet successful – stint on the hit reality show “Love and Hip Hop: New York.”

It was not until her hit song “Bodak Yellow” that she gained mass attention and inspired a ton of overly used Instagram captions including the iconic line, “I don’t dance now, I make money moves.” This song is what truly propelled Belcalis Almanzar — aka Cardi B — to stardom.

Cardi followed up her new success with a second hit song “Bartier Cardi” as well as two successful features, Migos’ “Motorsport” and Bruno Mars’ “Finesse (Remix).”

Cardi released her long-awaited debut album, “Invasion of Privacy,” on April 6.

The title is very fitting given the consistent media attention the rapper has been receiving from her music, her highly publicized, controversial relationship with Migos member Offset, and the heavy speculation that the rapper was pregnant with their child.

Cardi took a page out of Taylor Swift’s book and took control of her own narrative by revealing her pregnancy during a performance on “Saturday Night Live.” In an interview with “Sway in the Morning,” the Bronx native explained the reasoning behind the album title.

“When I was doing my album these past couple of months, my privacy has been invaded the most,” the rapper said in the interview. “I feel like I give people a lot and people still want more. When it comes to my pregnancy, I had people harassing me, stalking me. If it’s not something about me, it’s something about my man.”

“Invasion of Privacy” gives fans the goofy, hardcore Cardi but adds a sense of vulnerability as well. Songs such as “Be Careful,” “Ring” feat. Kehlani and “Thru Your Phone” highlighted this side of the rapper.

There was also heavy speculation that the song “Be Careful” was about fiancé Offset, but the rumors were addressed in her interview with Beats 1.

“I heard the record before I was even in love with Offset,” she said.

Additionally, this interview cleared up rumors that she stole the song and/or had a ghost writer for the track.

“Thru Your Phone” showed an accurate depiction of finding out that a significant other has been unfaithful. “Ring” elicits the feelings of loneliness and pain, especially with Kehlani singing the chorus. Kehlani also was not the only feature—“Invasion of Privacy” included songs featuring SZA, YG, J.Balvin and Chance the Rapper.

Fans and critics had nothing but good things to say about “Invasion of Privacy.” The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart and broke Taylor Swift’s streaming record. “Invasion of Privacy” is an awesome album and is perfect for any occasion. It is available to buy and stream on all music platforms.
