Rebecca Bittner is a student here at Iona University and has already made a big impact in our university.
From being on the cheer team freshman year to now being a part of Gamma Lambda Rho, Executive Producer of News for IUTV, sideline reporter for IUTV and a student creative for club sports.
Media is one of Bittner’s biggest passions in life. Starting at the age of 11 in her middle school to now being the founder and co-host of “Good Morning Gaels,” the Executive Producer of News along with many other things.
She started her media career very early learning her way around a control room at the age of 11 and working all the way up to the president of the media club her senior year of high school.
In her first year at IUTV, she became in charge of her own morning show. Expanding her knowledge for both being on camera and off. Giving guidance to others and helping them learn the ins and outs of the media world.
She has grown so much personally in her media life where she landed herself an internship with the Olympics on NBC. Working at NBC has been her dream since she was 11 and has made it her lifelong goal to work there. That dream came true at the age of 20 as she continues to strive and become a news anchor for the company.
In her short time with the company, she was a digital ad placement intern and was in charge of running the streams for the games along with putting ads where they need to go. Working at the Olympics was a dream come true and an experience she will never forget.
Sideline reporting is what got her foot in the door for Iona Athletics. Reporting for IUTV was a passion that she strived to do. That chance finally arrived.
Her first game was the Iona men’s basketball team against the Sienna Saints. As nervous as she was, she put herself out there and did a great job on the broadcast, earning herself another opportunity the next day and later getting to report for a game on SNY.
“I was extremely nervous filling some big shoes and being a part of something bigger than myself,” said Bittner. Additionally, “but in it all my favorite thing about sideline reporting is to be able to bring one-of-a-kind stories to everyone’s homes.”
Bittner has proven her drive and unwavering work ethic in the early stages of her journey at Iona. Even with the fast paced environments and high stress roles, she has persevered and gained meaningful experience.
