Balancing classes, work, and several clubs, keeps me pretty busy. But it’s not as overwhelming as it sounds! “How are you not stressed all the time?” people ask. Truthfully, even though my schedule is packed, being involved in various things is actually what helps me manage my stress, not add to it.
That being said, school is always my first priority. No matter how involved I am, my classes come first. I enjoy learning and being exposed to new ideas, and that motivates me to stay on top of my work. Whether it’s engaging in discussions, learning something unexpected, or challenging myself academically, my classes give structure and purpose to everything else I do.
For me, being part of clubs and attending events isn’t just about staying productive or building a résumé. It’s about connection. Being involved gives me the opportunity to spend time with my friends, meet new people, and feel like I’m part of something bigger than my daily routine. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I feel more grounded because I’m surrounded by a community that supports me.
One of my favorite examples of this was an Education Club movie night. On a Wednesday evening, I got to sit in a room full of my friends, relax, and just enjoy a movie together. It wasn’t anything complicated or stressful, but it reminded me why I chose to stay involved. Moments like that allow me to step away from academic pressure and just have a blast. They help me reset mentally, and they make everything else feel more manageable.
Because of that, making time for my friends is something I genuinely prioritize. No matter how busy my schedule gets, I intentionally create space for those moments. Whether it’s attending an event, going to a meeting, or just spending time together. It might seem like adding more to my plate would increase stress, but it gives me balance.
Balancing everything still requires effort and planning. Staying organized and managing my time well allows me to keep up with my responsibilities without feeling overwhelmed. Instead of falling behind, I focus on staying ahead so that I can fully enjoy everything I’m involved in.
Every Friday, I give myself that time to reset. Since I don’t have classes or work, I use that time to slow down and focus on self-care. Sometimes that means doing a face mask, going through my skincare routine, or catching up on laundry. Other times, it means getting ahead with homework, so I don’t feel overwhelmed later in the week. It’s not always exciting, but it helps me feel organized and in control.
The balance between staying involved, prioritizing my education, and taking time for myself is what keeps everything feeling just right. Without my busy schedule, I would probably feel more isolated and stressed. And without my self-care days, I would burn out so incredibly quickly.
At the end of the day, balance doesn’t mean doing less. I believe it means being intentional with my time day to day, making space for my goals, my education, my friendships, and very importantly, myself. Being busy isn’t what defines my lifestyle, it’s how I choose to balance it that makes all the difference.
