When it comes to music, I listen to all genres. However, one artist that I always wanted to get into is Don Toliver. I’ve listened to his previous album, “Hardstone Psycho” and while there were a few songs on the album I enjoyed, Toliver’s newest album, Octane, turned me more into a fan of the Houston rapper. Released as his fifth studio album, Toliver recorded Octane with the span of December 2024 to January 2026 and contains 18 tracks, while featuring several marquee names collaborating on songs with Toliver which include Travis Scott, Teezo, Touchdown, Yeat, and many others.
While at a Nightclub in March 2025, Toliver teased the crowd with a new album that he would be dropping, which could potentially be dropping at the end of 2025, amidst still recording music for the album. In September 2025, Toliver would drop his first single off the album, “Tiramisu”, which is fantastic. After a few more months of working on the album, a week before the album would drop, Toliver would release another single “ATM,” which is one of my favorite songs off of the album.
The first half of this album was nothing but consistent hits, such as “Rendevous,” which is my favorite song off the album that includes such an amazing feature from Yeat. “Body,” the second track on the album, samples Justin Timberlake’s “Rock Your Body” with a very cohesive rap beat that is easily one of the best songs on the album, as well as one of my favorite songs off the album. I would like to give an honorable mention to “Rosary” which is such an amazing song with an amazing feature from Travis Scott.
Now while I did say, the first half were nothing but consistent hits, at the same time, there were consistent hits during the second half of this album, such as “Call Back,” “Excavator,” and “Gemstone,” which the latter two are two of my personal favorite songs on the album. Now while songs off the album, such as “All The Signs’ which features Teezo Touchdown, and “TMU” are not bad songs off the album, they are not my personal taste, but for those who do like this song, I give you more power.
As stated in the beginning, while I liked Toliver’s music at first, “Octane” opened my eyes more into liking Toliver’s music much more, with my favorite songs off the album being “Rendevous.” “ATM,” “Body,” “Excavator,” and “Gemstone.” For those who have not listened to “Octane” and would like to get into Don Toliver, go try it as this is Toliver’s most consistent album yet.
