Cole is one of my top five favorite artists, in large part due to my love for the hip-hop genre. Cole surprised everyone with the release of “The Fall Off” on Feb. 7, 2026, which he had said was his final album. The album itself is one hour and 41 minutes in length and has 25 tracks.
This album was produced by not only Cole himself but also the Alchemist, Beat Butcha, Tae Beast and many other producers. The album notably features artists like Future, Tems, PJ, Erykah Badu, Burna Boy and Morray.
But, in order to look at Cole’s last album, we have to spotlight his whole career.
Cole was a St. John’s graduate who was later signed by Jay-Z to Roc Nation, and he began making beats and creating music. From 2007 to 2011, he released an album, “Cole World: The Sideline Story” and two mixtapes, “The Come Up”, “The Warm Up” and “Friday Night Lights”, with one song, “Work Out”, becoming a hit song in the early 2010s.
In 2013, J. Cole released his album “Born Sinners” (my personal favorite) which contains classic songs such as “She Knows”, “Power Trip”, “Forbidden Fruit” and “Sparks Will Fly”. J Cole produced several more albums over the years, especially the legendary album “2014 Forest Hills Drive”, which skyrocketed his popularity.
Cole created his own record label, Dreamville, and, at its peak, consisted of artists like JID, EARTHGANG and Ari Lennox. They have released lots of compilations of albums such as “Revenge of the Dreamers I”, and its two sequels, and “D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape”. As a collective, Dreamville also has lots of good singles such as “Under the Sun”, one of my top 10 songs of all time, “MIDDLE CHILD”, and “Down Bad”.
Cole is deemed a legend by many people, and some people say that he rivals both Drake and Kendrick Lamar, with a frequent argument being which of the three is the best. J. Cole has amazing authenticity in his projects, and he gives inspiration to several rappers.
Overall, my personal favorites songs from J. Cole are “Fire Squad”, “Wet Dreamz”, “Immortal”, “Change”, “4 Your Eyez Only”,” No Role Modelz”, “Land of the Snakes”, “Deja Vu”, “MIDDLE CHILD”, “A Tale of 2 Citiez” and “Sparks Will Fly.”
“The Fall Off” is available to listen to now on all streaming services and you should go listen to it.
