Love Gaels: The joy of laughter

Laughter is one of the best and most enjoyable parts of life, a good laugh can turn a bad day into a great one and turn a frown upside down. Laughter can be found all throughout life, from TV shows, to comics, to family members and for me the most consistent outlet for laughter was and always will be my grandma. I always considered my grandma’s house a place of such joy and filled with laughter. Growing up means developing traits and characteristics and sometimes those traits are taken or inspired by family members, and I can say that my sense of humor and enjoyment of laughter comes from her.

I can recall many instances of nonstop laughter with my grandma, to the point where we couldn’t even look at each other without laughing our hearts out, and I could always count on her for a good laugh. I’d say my grandma’s humor consists of random and drawn-out jokes and storytelling, those stories and her movements while telling those stories always got a laugh out of me, her over the top demeanor would amplify the jokes and stories to culminate into an incredibly funny moment and memory.

We’d sit there for hours laughing about a joke or a story to the point where I’d be clenching my stomach due to the pain of all the laughing, I endured. I could always rely on my grandma to provide me with a good laugh every time I’d visit her and is a notion that rings true till this day. The enjoyment and positivity laughing gave me as a kid is what I would consider to be the Joy of Laughter.

Growing up I always appreciated my grandma for her ability to always make me laugh, and as I grew up and gained a better understanding of the world, I began to value her laughter more and more. As an adult the Joy of Laughter means more to me than the surface level meanings it had when I was a kid, as laughter helps with the tragedies of life and allows for moments of light in the dark.

Life is full of ups and downs that are unavoidable, but my grandma taught me that laughing when things get rough helps ease the pain of loss, disappointment, frustration and many other negative emotions or experiences.

Life is a wild ride, with a plethora of positive and negative emotions that we face on a daily basis, but laughing throughout it all will make the adventure worth it, so don’t forget to enjoy a good laugh every now and again, as my grandma taught me the best part of life is laughter.
