Gaels came together for the holidays to light the creche and tree on the Murphy Green despite the rain on Dec. 6.

The event began with an introduction from Aidan Connolly, senior and SGA president. Spectors watched from the Spellman Portico huddled against the cold December air. After the introduction, the Iona Singers and music minsters began to sing Christmas carols, starting with “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” Later, there was a Christmas reading lead by junior and campus minister Annika Ziels.

Senior and campus minster Jamie Sullivan was excited to see the high turnout.

“I think it is super nice to be able to do events like these like it used to be before Covid,” Sullivan said. “It brings the Gael and Christmas spirt together.”

Around the twenty-minute mark, Father Gernard blessed the creche. Iona’s president Seamus Carey lit the creche, while senior and campus minster Megan Sweeney lit the Christmas tree. Finally, the Iona Singers and music minsters lead with two Christmas carols: “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
