Iona University’s Speech and Hearing and American Sign Language Club joined the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) for its annual Walk4Hearing in New York City last month. HLAA is the nation’s leading organization that represents individuals with hearing loss, advocating for education about the condition. HLAA holds Walk4Hearing events across the entire country. The money raised by the campaign is donated to other organizations to fund resources for those living with hearing loss and help promote awareness.

Gaels have been participating for years. Every fall, students are eager to help such an important cause. Earlier, in the semester there was a fundraiser in preparation for the walk that sold stickers, pins and phone wallets.

Iona University was one of the top teams at the fundraiser with a grand total of $1,978, while the New York walk raised $102,000 overall.
