Iona College released a statement on Friday morning that said St. John’s has not reached out to the school about men’s basketball Head Coach Tim Cluess.

The school said it has long-term plans for the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and is hoping Cluess ends his career in New Rochelle. Cluess signed a contract extension through the 2024-25 season around the same time last year.

Rumors of Tim Cluess being a candidate for the St. John’s head coaching position started on Wednesday. The speculations intensified when men’s basketball Head Coach Bobby Hurley, who was another candidate for the St. John’s job, announced on Thursday that he has plans to stay at Arizona State.
