The Iona College golf team was in Ellington, Conn. on Oct. 10-11 as they participated in the Connecticut Cup at the Ellington Ridge Country Club. The Gaels played two rounds on day one of the tournament, shooting scores of 296 in round one and 299 in round two.

Sophomore Jordan Kral was the low-man for Iona after day one, with a two round score of 147. Iona struggled on the final day, as they shot a team score of 300 and ended the tournament in sixth place out of 16 teams, with Sacred Heart University placing first.

“Overall, I was happy with our level of play at the Conn. Cup. We had a really strong first day of competition on a difficult course, and put ourselves in a position to win the tournament if we played well the second day,” said Coach Matt Glovaski. “We struggled a bit on the last day, and so we’ll need to work on consistency and finishing strong in the final rounds of tournaments. We’ve showed moments of greatness so far this fall, so we’ll need to continue to work on getting stronger as the tournament goes continues.”

Glovaski also explained the key for his team throughout the rest of the season:

“The main thing that we need to continue to work on is consistency. We have the ability to post great scores each week; we just need to focus on finishing our tournaments with more stability,” Glovaski said. “The last 3-4 holes typically carry the most pressure in a college tournament, and can ultimately define a player’s round. I think with continued practice and hard work, we can strive to finish our rounds with more consistency and ultimately put ourselves in a position to win tournaments each
