The wonderful world of 3D Disney

As many people believe, 3D is taking over the world.

What movie isn’t released without that kind of format today? If global domination is its goal, it certainly won a major battle recently with Disney’s decision to rerelease many of their beloved classics in the 3D style. This news is greatly in debt to the enormous success of the recent rerelease of “The Lion King” in 3D.

“The Lion King,” the beloved story of the lion cub Simba with a “Hamlet” like plot, is arguably one of the best animated movies of all time.

During its original release in 1994, it dominated the box office, garnered an Academy Award for Best Original Song (“Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”), a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy and still presently holds a position in the top five highest grossing animated films of all time.

Both kids and adults love the heartwarming, and at times heartbreaking, story of Simba’s journey from the carefree life of childhood to the responsibilities of adulthood, all the while learning about the lessons of love, friendship, family and the great Circle of Life. It is not hard to see why the Walt Disney Company would choose this film to be its first rerelease.

“It was like a part of my childhood coming back to life,” said Iona College sophomore Erin O’Reilly. “It was so unreal to see such a classic film, which I actually owned on VHS, be brought back in
