The Iona College Women’s Basketball Team was defeated by Texas A&M Corpus Christi 77-68 on Nov. 22 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The loss dropped them to 3-2 on the season.

Freshman Damika Martinez led the Gaels with a season high 21 points and added six rebounds, as senior quad-captain Kristina Ford had 17 points and nine rebounds.

The biggest difference of the game was rebound efficiency, as the Gaels were out-rebounded 62-41, outscoring the Gaels 38-28 in the paint. Also, the Gaels committed a season high 28 fouls, causing foul trouble throughout the game for many key players on the Maroon and Gold.

Along with the 28 fouls committed, Corpus Christi converted 26 free throws on 39 attempts.

“I hope they are as disappointed as I am,” said head coach Anthony Bozzella.  “We had a great chance to take a huge lead, and we just didn’t capitalize on the opportunities we were team.”

The Gaels travel to Ohio to take on Toledo on Dec. 1, and Miami (OH) on Dec. 2. After the Ohio trip, the Gaels travel to Wisconsin to take on Marquette University on Dec. 10.
