In my opinion, our world has felt so gray recently. We’re experiencing the cold wind of autumn, as our bodies start to shiver and hearts fight to stay warm. We’re uncertain about the future because no one has found a way to calm us down. Seeing a world of color right now is quite difficult.
However, my goal is to change that for you, even if it’s for a few minutes. I’ve taken some time to remind myself about what color represents to me. As a child, I absolutely loved the idea of everything being full of color.
Blue (specifically cerulean & cornflower )
The amount of accessories and clothes I have in these shades of blue is comical to me. I never noticed how much I loved these shades until I noticed that one day I was wearing sneakers, my bookbag, my headphones and a hoodie that were either cerulean or cornflower. Blue makes me feel centered. It reminds me to be gentle in the way I act and hold the life that I’ve been given.
Yellow (specifically butter yellow)
My first bedroom was butter yellow. Every morning, my walls would glow so strongly, it was quite the wake up method. I don’t think I was a huge fan of it at the time, but now the color feels so nostalgic. Putting it in poetic terms, the light created by those yellow walls is the same light within my soul. Kindness is so important to me.
The warmth that those bedroom walls held was so comforting, and yellow has forever kept me connected to my younger self. There’s a sort of joy and whimsy that lighter yellow shades bring to me.
Green (specifically seafoam and jade )
My favorite color is seafoam green. In 7th grade, my parents let me switch bedrooms. So my Dad painted our guest room seafoam green. Since that moment, I’ve admired this color so much. It will always represent change for me. I never knew the shade existed before having the bedroom, so the color was a big part of me growing up. As for jade green, I’ve been seeing more of this color due to the fact that it’s my boyfriend’s favorite color. Now, it not only connects me to love but also reminds me of earth and its beauty.
Red (specifically cherry & ruby)
My favorite fictional character is Emma Swan from the television show, Once Upon A Time. A staple piece of Emma’s character was the red leather jackets she always wore. As the show went on, Emma grew to have so much confidence and hope in her life and she’s still so inspiring to me. Because of her, red will always represent bravery and resilience. She went through so much, and the red leather jackets being a sort of “armor” for her was a real part of the plot.
Color will always be prevalent to me, no matter how dark the world feels. I will forever protect my world of color.
