At Iona University, the Education Club is proving that community service can be as meaningful as it is enjoyable. Led by an enthusiastic executive board — Debora Diaz (President), Julia Barresi (Vice President), Elizabeth Rayward (Secretary), Nicholas Maxian (Event Coordinator), Holly Farnan (Treasurer), Jordan Brown and Jacylin Gonzalez (Social Media Chairs), Hailey Aguilar (Co–Community Service Chair), and Randie Davis (Executive Assistant).
The club brings together students who are passionate about supporting local children and strengthening ties between campus and the New Rochelle community. The club’s central mission is simple: to stay involved with the community and give back to children. Throughout the academic year, members plan and host creative fundraising events that make service approachable and fun. Proceeds from these activities help fund the club’s signature project, an annual Field Day for nearby elementary schools. The event gives children from the greater New Rochelle area a chance to enjoy games, crafts, and outdoor play with Iona students, building connections that last well beyond the schoolyard. So far this year, the Education Club has kept a lively calendar.
Students have gathered for a cozy Movie Night, learned new skills at a How to Braid workshop, relaxed with DIY face masks, and shared laughs during a Paint and Sip session. The club also prepared thoughtful Back-to-School Care Packages and hosted a spirited Back-to-School Bash to celebrate the start of the semester. These events create an inclusive space where students can meet new friends while making a difference. The group meets most Thursdays to organize projects, brainstorm ideas, and enjoy each other’s company.
Whether you’re studying education, business, science, or the arts, you’ll find a welcoming community eager to collaborate and serve. Looking ahead, the Education Club is excited to host its upcoming Hospitality Dinner on Thursday, September 25. This gathering promises an evening of good food and camaraderie, while helping generate support for the club’s outreach programs. Members encourage the entire Iona student body to attend, lend a hand, or simply learn more about how small acts of service can have a big impact. With its mix of service, creativity, and fellowship, the Education Club is a reminder that giving back can be one of the most rewarding parts of college life. Students interested in joining can stop by a Thursday meeting, follow the club’s announcements, or connect with members at upcoming events.
