Valentine’s Day can bring a lot of pressure, especially when you’re running low on cash and time. Instead of stressing yourself out, follow these tips and focus more on enjoying this time with your significant other.

A day spent taking in some scenic nature could be the perfect romantic date, and it doesn’t cost much either. Just behind Iona’s campus and down the road is Beechmont Lake. It’s not a far walk, making it a great option for a lakeside picnic. With a couple sandwiches, some sparkling cider and a few chocolate covered strawberries, you are set to enjoy a little one on one time with your partner.

If the weather isn’t ideal for a picnic, don’t worry – a glow in the dark mini golf date in New Roc City might be the right thing for you. For only $13, you and your partner can compete to see who the baby Tiger Woods is. There is also a movie theater, arcade and bowling alley at New Roc City. Not to mention, the Gael Express will drop you off there for free!

You don’t have to do anything big for Valentine’s Day. It’s really just important that you get to spend some time with the one you love.

“I feel that you should love your partner every day, and not just unleash your love on one day,” graduate student CharlesBorges said. “This year, my girlfriend and I are going to go out to eat, and then come home and watch a movie just to spend some time together since we are always busy.”

Romantic gifts don’t have to be a big deal, either. Go to your local dollar store and pick up a photo album, some arts supplies, some candy or a fake roseand a gift bag if needed. Next, print any pictures you have of you and your partner. You can do this easily at the CVS on North Ave, where each photo will only cost a few cents. You can then fill the photo album with the photos to remind your partner of all the great memories you have had throughout your relationship. On the page at the end of the photo album, place a question mark in the photo slot to indicate that there are more adventures to come.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.

“[…] we try not to make a big deal of Valentine’s Day,” graduate student Maddie Campbell said. “As long as [I] get flowers, that’s all I want”.

Whether you’re in a relationship or not, go out, share a smile, a laugh or a hug. Take the time to tell your friend, family or pet that you love them. Remember, it’s a day to spread love!
