Our Favorite Holiday Movies The Ionian staff shares their favorite flicks of the season

“Elf”

“Not only is ‘Elf’ insanely quotable, the story of Buddy the elf facing the big, harsh and confusing world with such optimism is heartwarming. And I mean, we love a pre-fame Zooey Deschanel.”

Alison Robles, Editor-in-Chief

“Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”

“I watch it every year with my family. We can’t help but laugh at all the ridiculous things Kevin goes through. The best part is when he reunites with his family at the end. It makes you realize how special it is to be with your family during the holidays.”

 Stacey Franciamore, Managing Editor

“Love Actually”

“My favorite film is Love Actually. It’s a rom-com with a lot of heart and a great soundtrack that will leave you smiling from beginning to end. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should check it out for the star studded cast alone! It features many of America’s favorite British darlings including Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant and many more.”

Victoria Sanseverino, Chief Copy Editor

“Christmas with the Kranks”

“I watch it all the time with my mom and we always laugh at how goofy it is. It shows how far a parent will go for their child, especially during the holidays.”

Riana Khan, Chief Photo Editor

“A Christmas Carol” (2009)

“It’s such a good rendition of the movie and the story is such a classic tale. I also love England so there’s my bias.”

Matthew Chaves, Sports Editor

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas”

“I watch it almost every year with my sister and, especially with the release of the animation of The Grinch, I can never get tired of this character. I fall in love with him all over again because he’s simply misunderstood.”

Maureen DeGregorio, Social Media Manager

“A Christmas Story”

“It’s so relatable at any age. It really details the Christmas-gone-wrong accurately and makes it so funny. The ending is also so heartwarming and my family, and I love watching the 24 hour marathon of the movie that they run on TBS on Christmas Day. We cuddle up in our pajamas after opening gifts and just laugh at our favorite parts. We could probably watch it for 48 hours if they let us!”

Ciara Serpa, Chief Advertising Manager

“White Christmas”

“I love ‘White Christmas’ because it’s #vintage. The music and dancing is so fun, and you can never go wrong with Bing Crosby!”

Julia Fabrizio, Features & Lifestyle Editor

“The Polar Express”

“My favorite scene will always be when the servers gave the children the hot chocolate while singing and dancing. My sisters and I made it a tradition to watch the movie while drinking hot chocolate!”

Krystal Ortiz, News Editor

“Home Alone”

“My favorite Christmas movie is ‘Home Alone’ because its jokes still hold up. It’s super funny, heartwarming plus gut wrenching at the end! When ‘Somewhere In My Memory’ is sung, I am instantly brought to tears. Plus, the movie features an amazingly underrated performance from Catherine O’Hara.”

Brian Connors, Arts & Entertainment Editor
