Iona kicked off the semester with the semiannual Weeks of Welcome events, a series of activities that celebrate the new academic year and welcome new students on campus. Coordinated by campus organizations such as the Office of Student Development, the Gaels Activities Board and Iona Athletics, the events include women’s soccer games, yoga on the hill and a comedy show. This year’s Weeks of Welcome began on Aug. 25 and continues until Sept. 29. Here are some highlights from the first week of activities:

On Aug. 29, students joined the Mass of the Holy Spirit, where they called upon blessings and guidance for the upcoming school year.

On Aug. 30, Iona Player’s improv comedy group, Skits and Giggles, put on their first performance of the year.

On Sept. 1, the Hynes Athletic Center hosted a pool party. The pool was packed with pool noodles, inflatable pool donuts and beach balls for students to play with.

On Sept. 2, the women’s soccer team played St. Bonaventure University and celebrated their 3-1 win at the post-game Gael Gate in the End Zone.
