The most anticipated movies of the upcoming year

Alyssa Garcia, Staff Writer

  1. Frozen 2 (November 22)

This is a movie we can’t just let go! The release of “Frozen” in 2013 launched a franchise that has taken the world by storm. The story of ‘Frozen 2’ seems to continue with Elsa and Anna choosing to take on the world together in a potentially dangerous adventure. Personally, with the themes of the movie being independence and family, I am excited to see if any plot holes will be filled or if more secrets will be uncovered. With trailers already out and theories never-ending fans can’t wait to see what happens next in the story!

  1. Joker (October 4)

The Joker is one of the most recognizable villains in the DC universe. There are countless accounts of his origin story, but ‘Joker’ is not meant to show how the titular villain started his descent into madness. It is meant to completely separate the Joker and his ties to Batman and allow the viewer to fall into madness as well. Despite being a huge Marvel fan, I am actually excited to see a more in-depth view into this villain like no other.

  1. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (November 22)

There is no one better to recreate the magic and history that is ‘Mr. Rogers Neighborhood’ than Tom Hanks. Mr. Fred Rogers was beloved by all and was certainly way ahead of his time. Rogers brought laughter and life lessons through his show and to this day is one of the most influential figures in television. This movie will follow his life and career, and it is a wholesome and impactful story the world needs now.

  1. Jumanji: The Next Level (December 13)

I know I am not the only person who believed that the 2017 remake of Jumanji was going to be a disaster, but ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ was a funny movie. The casting was fantastic and the story was as compelling as the original movie. Looking into the sequel, the story will continue to follow the characters from ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ as well as adding new characters into the mix! I am excited to see what new twists the story holds and the limits that the series will push.

  1. Cats (December 20)

I know so many people are going to question why I put this in the top 5. However, without a doubt, this is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. With a superstar cast and an interesting story, many are conflicted in how this movie is going to turn out. ‘Cats’ holds a place as being one of the top 5 longest-running Broadway productions. A movie seems unnecessary; however, in 2019 anything is possible. I will be seeing it to either be proven wrong or be proven right.
