Perez Hilton decides its time for a change

“I want to be the change that I want to see in others,” proudly declared renowned celebrity gossip columnist, Perez Hilton in an interview with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. The longtime “king” of nasty comments and entertaining, but hurtful celebrity gossip, has called it quits on the bullying front after realizing that his plea to stop the bullying and to raise awareness for those suffering like young Tyler Clementi, the 18-year-old Rutgers college student who fell victim to bullying and took his own life, was seen as hypocritical.

“It was a big wake-up call that so many people saw me that way,” said Hilton as he spoke of his reaction to the number of hateful messages he received in response to his pleas for change and the end of cyber bullying.

In the past, Hilton has brought success to himself and his website, PerezHilton.com, by hurting others. Whether it was by catching stars at their worst, giving celebrities crude nicknames, or even outing personalities as being gay right there on his website without permission. Hilton has referred to British songwriter Lily Allen as a “train-wreck” and has publicly outed homosexual celebrities, Lance Bass and Neil Patrick Harris. Hilton, openly gay himself, saw nothing wrong in doing this. He also found nothing wrong in posting an inappropriate photo of Miley Cyrus, only 17 years old, exiting a limousine with a clear shot up the starlet’s dress, creating the illusion that the underage star wasn’t wearing underwear.

His bullying has been far from ignored and never remains under the radar. His broadcasted opinions have resulted in awful reputations for some celebrities. Khloe Kardashian, popular television personality and model, spoke out about her torment from the gossip king in a video blog in which she also reached out to viewers about the recent suicides. Ironically enough, Kardashian was asked to post this video by none other than the gossip columnist himself, contributing to the “It Gets Better” campaign.

“For me, Perez has been my personal bully,” said Kardashian. “Perez has given me the nickname of the transvestite, and as the tranny. Writing fugly on my face, things that are very hurtful to me. Then it also lets his followers think ‘oh, that’s my name now’ and they can call me that and they can attack me. Perez definitely has made my self esteem lower at times. He’s definitely made me feel insecure about things, and made me not even want to go out because I knew the next day that if I took one bad picture, he would have something written about me on his website that definitely hurts my feelings.”

Such strong words from the star in light of recent events helped to play a role in Hilton’s change of heart. “I don’t want to be a bully,” Hilton said in a video he posted on his own website. Hilton vows to show a more sensitive side of the now 33 year old, proclaiming that he has grown up since the early days of his trash talking career. “I’ve grown and evolved as a person, and I think it’s time for my website to grow and evolve and change as well,” said Hilton.

“I need to change and I’m going to, starting today,” said Hilton. “I still want to be me and be fun and be sassy without being vanilla and also without being malicious and hurtful and nasty.”

Celebrities like DeGeneres and Kardashian hope Hilton will follow through with his claims and that his change of heart will lead him in the right direction.

Releasing new websites such as FitPerez.com, TeddyHilton.com and CocoPerez.com, the gossip columnist is continuing to blog without the gossip, while avoiding his old ways of controversial remarks and indecent photographs.

Doing his best to improve himself, Perez Hilton is truly begging for a second chance.
