‘Margaret’ finally sees release

When a film is made, it’s expected to be released in a timely manner after its completion…right? In an idealistic world it is. A six year delay, which Kenneth Lonergan’s “Margaret” has faced, is definitely not part of this idea. Thankfully, the end is finally in sight.

“Margaret” centers around high school student Lisa Cohen who’s world is turned upside down when she witnesses (and accidentally contributes) to a deadly accident involving a bus driver and an unfortunate woman. Entangling subplots follow, including an inappropriate relationship with a teacher, struggling relations with her mother, and discussion of some hot topic issues & emotions (rumored to do something with the Middle East and 9/11 survivor guilt).

The cast is nothing short of star studded. The unlucky teen is played by Anna Paquin, the teacher by Matt Damon, the bus driver by Mark Ruffalo, and her mother by J. Smith-Cameron. Even Matthew Broderick plays a small role.

Lonergan is pretty well known himself. He got critical acclaim for “You Can Count on Me” and leant some aid in writing “Gangs of New York” and “Analyze
