Jump onto the ’21 Jump Street’ bandwagon

Hollywood has been cranking out remakes one after another in the past few years, and most of them are duds.

When news came out that there was going to be a remake of the Fox TV show that made Johnny Depp the star he is, no one was expecting it to be a good film.

When Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill were announced as the stars of the film, any hope anyone had for the success of this film went down the drain.

Well, those people were 100 percent wrong.

“21 Jump Street” opened to theaters on March 16, proved those critics who had no faith in the 80s reboot wrong and scored the number one spot, with a $35 million opening weekend, one of the best openings in a while.

Since then has held the top position at the box office, that is until “The Hunger Games” popped up. Still, it held the number two spot this past weekend, earning an impressive $21.3 million, overshadowed by the Hunger Games $155 million open.

Most people are hesitant to go see remakes but this is unlike any other reboot there has ever been.

Hill and Tatum play two underachieving cops; Tatum’s character, Jenko, has the body a cop needs while Hill’s, Schmidt, has the brains. Together they would make a great team, but they are the type of cops that would let hardcore drug dealers get away.

Their supervisor puts them on 21 Jump Street; their baby faces will allow them to work undercover in high school attempting to bust teen drug dealers who have produced something unlike anything else the police have ever seen.

The movie is filled with the trials and tribulations of high school and being in the popular crowd.

“21 Jump Street” will have you laughing so hard tears will be streaming from your face. It has the humor of “The Hangover” mixed with plot lines from “Superbad”.

Channing Tatum, who usually does not play the funny one, proved to be an incredible comedic actor. He had perfect comedic timing, and, when paired with comedy veteran, Jonah Hill, the jokes came perfectly.

There are a few surprises that keeps you cheering for more and wishing the movie would never end.

The ending of “21 Jump Street” will have you leaving the theater saying you wish you were a cop because Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum make it look like the most fun job one could ever have.

Between the humor, the reviews and the money, Hollywood definitely has a new comedy franchise on their hands.
