Imagine it’s 1984 in New York City. The streets of the Big Apple are bursting with glamour, hot night life and the music of Cyndi Lauper and Billy Idol. With a new internship at a law firm in Manhattan, fighting with one’s sister, the daily work of school and a handsome transfer student, life is running wild. To top it all off, one’s nail-polish splattered purse is noticed by the style editor of Interview Magazine, the biggest in New York. Soon enough, you’re sneaking off during lunch-breaks and missing high-school dances to make photo-shoots and parties at high-end clubs.

That’s the life of Carrie Bradshaw, although she’s not “The” Carrie Bradshaw just quite yet. AnnaSophia Robb portrays the 16-year old, fashion-savvy go-lucky Carrie in the CW’s new hit “The Carrie Diaries.”

Robb gives a brand new outlook to a teenage Miss Bradshaw in this prequel to “Sex and the City.” The show revolves around the life of Carrie in her days before she was a successful writer and fashionista as she grows out of the innocent Connecticut girl to experiencing love, loss and New York City for the first time.

Robb has appeared in movies like “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Soul Surfer,” but the 19-year old has snagged another fan-favorite. Whether it’s the ‘80s music or the fashion that draws someone in, Robb makes the character her own; one that is memorable and relatable.

The CW Network has yet again given television drama fanatics one more to write into to their ‘must watch’ list just like “The Vampire Diaries” and “Gossip Girl.” The series pinpoints numerous emotional situations in Carrie’s life, including the loss of her mother and personal relationships amongst friends and family. Only three episodes into the series and each hour-long episode conveys a new twist in the plot to keep fans itching for more.

The show brings an exciting look to fans of “Sex and the City” or those just beginning their journey with Carrie.

Fans of “Sex and the City” escape to a world they know and love in the final scene of the first episode when Carrie ties her hair back and opens a journal, similar to that seen in many final scenes of the popular HBO show.

“The Carrie Diaries” can be seen every Monday night at 8 p.m. on the CW.
