‘50 Shades’ movie casting announced

The much-anticipated movie casting for the “Fifty Shades of Grey” series has finally been announced.

Author EL James made the announcement last Monday via Twitter revealing the official cast for the lead roles in her successful novels.

Dakota Johnson will be playing the innocent and awkward Anastasia Steele. Charlie Hunnam will play the handsome, young billionaire, Christian Grey.

Johnson, 24, is known for her minor roles in “21 Jump Street” and “The Social Network.”

The new Mr. Grey has been noted for his performance in FX’s popular series “Sons of Anarchy.”

Dana Brunetti and Michael DeLuca, who produced the academy award nominated movie, “The Social Network,” will be producing the movie.

James’ novels became a huge hit all over the world, selling more than 70 million copies in more than 50 different languages.

Once rumors sprang out about the novel coming out into a movie, fans began to keep a close eye on the hottest stars in Hollywood.

Instead of waiting for casting confirmation, fans began to make fan pages of their ideal images for both Anastasia and Christian.

Every week it seemed as though there was a new rumor floating around about who was going to play the new Christian and Ana. Many fan favorites for Mr. Grey included celebrities such as Ryan Gosling, “White Collar’s” Matt Bomer and Robert Pattinson.

Starlets such as Emma Watson and Alexis Bledel were rumored to be in the running to take on the role of Ana Steele.

Once Johnson and Hunnam were announced via Twitter to play the lead roles, fans reacted negatively.

Some fans went so far as to make petitions on Facebook and Twitter for “Gilmore Girls” star Alexis Bledel to take Johnson’s spot. Fans had high expectations for the characters to be attractive, since the novel was very sexy and racy. These hard-core fans are not alone. Junior Lauren Cristino thinks that there could have been some changes for the casting of the upcoming film.

“I was very intrigued by the books,” Cristino said. “I believe that they can get a better looking actress, but the actor performing as Christian is fit for the movie.”

In a recent interview, Hunnam responded to all the criticism, telling the Associated Press that the sex scenes will not be a problem.

According to USA Today, all three books will be made into movies by Universal Pictures and will be distributed by Focus Films.

Although fans are still firing back about the recent casting announcement, hopefully they will come around once they realize that casting is not solely based on looks.

The filming is said to start this fall, shortly after they made their first casting announcement.

Though we still are unaware of the other castings for the popular characters in the novel, the estimated release date for the film is said to be Aug.1, 2015.

Until then fans will have to wait to see if Hunnam can prove himself and whether or not Johnson will be able to portray her “inner goddess.”
