Fall fashion: Styling scarves

Rachel Baio Staff Writer

As the weather finally begins to pick a temperature to stick to, a fall fashion favorite is coming back in full swing: scarves.

They keep you warm while also being a great accessory to spruce up your look, and there’s so many ways to style them.

Typically scarves can just be thrown on, wrapped around your neck a few times and then maybe tucked into a wool coat.

If you’re tired of the same old look, try changing up how you wear this fall accessory.

Fashion is all about being creative and being yourself. It’s quite common to wear a crazy patterned scarf with a loud shirt. Neon scarves are often layered over warm colors as a fashion statement.

Circle scarves, also known as infinity scarves, are very popular, especially around campus. They are easy to put on in a rush, and basically style themselves because when you loop them around your neck twice, it gives you a comfortable, layered look.

Most are made out of extremely soft material, which makes even sitting in class that much more enjoyable. They’re also helpful for an evening out when you want to look put-together, but don’t have the time to put much effort into your outfit.

An innovative way that has recently picked up popularity is tying scarves in bows. You can wear this look by using a silk or loosely woven scarf around your neck, but instead of doing the typical wrap around or knot, you tie the scarf into a loose bow.

This adds a look of sophistication to an otherwise comfortable accessory. It can work as a style in warmer weather, too, if a silk scarf is used.

Blasts from the past are coming back in all kinds of ways in fashion. From combat boots to furry vests, the fall is full of surprises when it comes to vintage fashion. And one of those vintage styles involves scarves.

People now like to wear scarves as bandanas or even head wraps. It is not rare to see a person walking down a city street with a scarf as a bandana-like accessory in cold weather. It keeps your ears warm.

Silk scarves are typically used in this style, which is great because they come in a huge array of patterns. Don’t be afraid to experiment.

Another vintage look is to wear a loosely woven scarf as a headband. In cold weather a headband mad out of woven material is sure to keep your head warm while also adding an appealing look.

Some people will wrap the scarf around their head and tie it in a knot or bow in the front so it is securely set in place. It also looks chic.

With so many ways to style a scarf, it’s no wonder these cozy accessories are in such high demand. Whether it is wool or silk, plain or boisterous with a pattern, scarves are the perfect way to express yourself while also keeping snug.
