Whether you’re redecorating your room or switching up your style, a great way to do so affordably is thrift shopping.

Finding thrift shops may seem more difficult than it actually is. A lot of times these quirky stores are hidden among large chain retailers that dominate every sidewalk.

Take time to simply explore your typical neighborhoods or research specific shops online to find a truly great one.

It is tricky developing a shopping strategy for thrift shops because each one you enter is unique.

Although they all sell clothes, the setup of the stores and featured styles vary amongst the different locations. It’s best to walk into a store with an open mind and time to dig through the endless racks in hopes of finding what you’re looking for.

While this may become time-consuming and tedious, finding a vintage band t-shit or an oversized flannel shirt will make you feel victorious. It really does feel like you’re going treasure hunting – you dig through a variety of basic pieces until you come across the couple of items that catch your eye.

If you’re looking for a particular style, it’s best to do some research before hand. This way you can find out what type of thrift shops sell the types of things that you are looking for.

Some shops tend to feature high-end brands, while others have a variety of more basic pieces, such as solid colored shirts, sweaters of various textures and products designed for practicality.

Thrift stores are not always limited to clothing; many of them are accessory-based, full of shoes, jewelry, scarves and any other outfit add-ons you can think of.

One of the local thrift shops in the New Rochelle community is located right on North Avenue, the Salvation Army. Aside from looking for clothes, accessories and other items, it is a great place to find cheaper items for a one-time event.

Since Iona is only a 25 minute train ride from New York City, it is easy to take a quick trip in to shop and get great deals. There is a multitude of thrift shops and even some that specialize in designer clothes at a more affordable price.

Brands such as Dior, Chanel, Givenchy, Burberry, Fendi and Louis Vuitton can all be found at thrift stores like Buffalo Exchange. Some thrift stores even give you the opportunity to sell your old clothes and items in exchange for store credit.

Even for those who aren’t into wearing what they find have been able to make extra money off of selling the unique pieces online. They do this by either up-selling their clothing items, which means improving them with their sewing skills, or just selling the pieces as they are.

Don’t be afraid to go exploring through the racks of a thrift shop with some friends. The better finds won’t always jump out at you, so it may take a little digging, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t there.
