Compare and contrast: TV streaming websites

Television streaming sites like Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime offer competitive rates, and equally binge worthy shows. Which site is right for you?

Netflix:

Generally known for knocking Blockbuster out of existence. Netflix offers three packages ranging from $8-$12: Basic, Standard and Premium.

Most of the TV shows and movies on this site are old, but they do have original series out such as “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “House of Cards.”

The student consensus on campus is that Netflix is the best for its ad-less and huge selection. Senior Richart Flaetgen agrees with this.

“Netflix is way better. Hulu throws in ads even for the premium. It’s like a slap in the face to watch the same shows.” Flaetgen said.

For those who want to marathon an already aired show, Netflix is the way to go.

Hulu Plus: Streams both old and new series, and it has a few of its own original shows.

Besides its pesky ads, Hulu comes out as the most affordable option, while offering same content as Netflix and more.

Hulu uploads up-to-date series on their site from local and other cable channels.

Hulu Plus offers one package for $8. Ultimately it’s best for students who might have missed a recent episode of their favorite on-air TV series.

Amazon Prime Instant Video: A makeup of different TV streaming sites. Amazon offers its instant streaming for $100 a year. College students can get Amazon Prime for free for six months with their college e-mail address.

Amazon offers other media content and shipping deals as well. Amazon gives its members ad-free access to over a million songs and hundreds of playlists, free Kindle eBooks to borrow and early access to product deals.

Some love this deal, but senior Carlos Mendoza is not a big fan of Amazon.

“Whatever [Amazon] had, Netflix and Hulu had,” Mendoza said. “If you’re a person that orders online then you should do prime.”

Most would agree that it depends on the person, on whether you’re an avid online shopper or a couch potato.

Mendoza went on to explain that if you’re a movie lover then you’d go for Netflix, if you love the small screen, Hulu is the way to go, and if you’re going to use the added bonuses that Amazon offers, that’s your winner.

Something that does sweeten the Amazon deal is that they air some of HBO’s older original series. Neither Netflix nor Hulu can offer these shows to its users.

Some others to check out are iTunes, Google Play, Crackle and Vessel.

All of these streaming sites have their advantages and disadvantages. For what they offer, it all comes down to the individual.
