Style Spotlight: Staying trendy and comfortable

From modeling clothes, to searching for outfit inspiration online, junior Penelope Golden has always been in love with fashion.

She describes her style as a mix of preppy and casual.

“I like to dress how I feel,” said Golden.

She uses colors to her advantage, and conveys her mood through the outfit she wears that day. Golden gravitates towards bright colors and fun patterns on happier days, and when she is feeling more laid back she works with a pair of jeggings and a simple top.

She ties the look together with accessories and makeup.

“I feel my makeup pulls my whole outfit,” said Golden.

When it comes to accessorizing, Golden takes a more traditional approach. She prefers diamond studded earrings, bangles or a cute necklace.  She believes jewelry is what ties a good outfit together.

Golden gets her style inspiration from different outlets.

“I like to google outfit ideas or go on Pinterest and Tumblr to look at different types of outfits,” said Golden.

She believes this helps create new outfit ideas and helps her try different styles that she wouldn’t have thought of on her own. Besides the internet, she also looks to her style icon actress Lea Michele.

Golden likes how Michele embodies a fun and casual style, while still being confident. She hopes to inspire others on campus the way Michele has inspired her.

Golden encourages people to wear what they want and express their uniqueness through their fashion choices.

She doesn’t want anyone to be afraid to express themselves or show off their uniqueness because she believes that everyone is beautiful no matter what they wear.

“It’s all about being comfortable in your own skin,” said Golden.

When asked about how Golden first got into fashion, she explained that she modeled clothing at four-months-old.

Golden explained that her don’ts include sweatpants, jeans, fur and loose fitting clothes. She doesn’t like to dress too laid back because it makes her feel lazy and unmotivated.

“My mom always told me that how you dress is a reflection of your person so take pride in who you are,” said Golden.

Golden’s mother always dressed her up when she was younger, so fashion has become a natural thing for her, and her passion for it has only grown stronger.

Golden’s favorite stores include New York & Company and H&M. She prefers shopping there because the clothes are interchangeable, making it easy to mix and match.
