Everything you need to inspire your wardrobe can be found at New York Fashion Week. Designers have launched their spring and summer 2016 collections and these looks are everything you need in your closet.

1. Black and White:

This classic color combination was a common look on the runway. White button down shirts were combined with patterned skirts and brightly colored shorts.

If black and white aren’t your everyday look, the monochrome colors were accented by various textures to give a modern-day twist to the outfits.

These types of looks could be seen in the French Haute Couture House of Givenchy, which debuted its first men and women’s collection. The designer was dedicated to the black and white pallet as well as an assortment of lace, feathers, silk and fringe.

The women’s collection was more detailed-oriented with a variety of different textures such as lace and silk, while the men’s looks were sleek and minimalistic and consisted of crisp tuxedos and suits. The cohesiveness of the two collections complimented each other well.

2. 90s Grunge:

This is one of the many throwback fashion trends that has carried over from the fall into spring and summer. It takes inspiration from punk and rock n’ roll, as well as 90s fashion muses such as Gwen Stefain and Kurt Cobain.

American fashion designer Alexander Wang celebrated his brand’s 10 year anniversary with a men and women’s collection. Wang’s runway collection featured bold stripes and plaid.

The bolder patterns were paired with simple, plain neutral colors like army green and black. When trying to pull off this style, you should lean more towards loose fitting clothes.

3. Sports Wear:

Active wear that is easily wearable and breathable is a fashion must. The athletic-inspired trend can keep anyone cool during the warmer weather.

French clothing company Lacoste used the Summer 2016 Olympics and active wear as inspirations for its collection. The men’s collection features both the American and Jamaican flags while the women’s collection has only the American flag incorporated into its outfits.

4. 70s Chic:

The 70s trend also continues to conquer the runways. For a casual summer look, lightweight jumpsuits and sundresses with bright patterns and colors are just the things you need. If you need a more professional look, you can pair wide-leg pants paired with loose-fitting blouses.

M Missoni and Frame Denim have women’s collections also inspired by the era. M Missoni specifically focused on these looks and should be considered when looking to upgrade your summer wardrobe.

Their loose fitting, red and black stripe pants and patterned jumpsuits come in colors like grey, white, blue, pink and black.

Frame Denim spotlights a more 70s French Rivera destination collection. Some of these looks included stripes, loose-fitting looks with the hems cuffed and high-waisted denim.

5. Classic 1940s:

While the 70s and 90s have made their comebacks in the fall and winter months, the 40s are set to make their comeback a little later. Keep your eyes peeled for the return of bowling shirt and trousers.

Designers like Lavin, Louis Vuitton, Dries Van Norten and E. Tautz have added their own twists to their designs. For instance, Tautz created graphic prints on the bowling shirts, and Van Norten embellished theirs with red palm trees.

These top five trends are musts to create the perfect spring and summer time look. They can even be mixed and matched with one another when styled right.

To mix things up, women can pair a jumpsuit with a silk tuxedo jacket and men can wear a bowling shirt with baggy pants or shorts.

Keep an eye out for these trends and you will be ready for the upcoming seasons.
