DIY: Four Halloween Costumes on a budget

Ariana Perez Staff Writer

With Halloween right around the corner and the costume party invites piling up, you’re going to be required to put together multiple looks for each night out.

If you’re on a budget or find yourself lacking inspiration this year, here are some DIY Halloween costumes you have to try out.

1. Zombify Last Year’s Costume:

What you’ll need: Fake blood and eyeshadow

Recycling last year’s costume just got a whole lot more fun. If you still have your Halloween costume from last year, turn it into a zombie. Splatter the fake blood all over your costume, using a fork to make it seem like rake marks, and pack on the brown and black eye shadow around your eyes. This will help turn your once innocent costume into a scary zombie. Whether you were Little Red Riding Hood or your favorite super hero, it doesn’t take much to make this costume happen. The best part of this costume is that there are no limits as to what you can do with it.

2. Modern Day Vampire

What you’ll need: Leather jacket, plain shirt, jeans, boots and fake blood

Thanks to shows like Vampire Diaries and book series like Twilight, vampires will never go out of style. Put a modern twist on the classic vampire using the everyday clothes in your closet. Your make up can be something simple like a smoky eye, and if you really want to complete your look, go to Extremesfx.com for vampire contact lenses. Complete your look with some fake blood on your lips and neck and you’re ready to go.

3. Nerd

What you’ll need: Plaid pants or skirt, suspenders, ironed collared shirt, thick rimmed glasses and knee high socks.

Release your inner nerd through your Halloween costume this year. While there are plenty kits available online to help you put this look together, pulling things from your closet can be just as easy and gives you more room to accessorize. This costume works great alone and with a group of friends.

4. Lumber Jack Couple

What you’ll need: Plaid shirt, beanie, jeans, a belt and a pair of hiking boots

If you and your significant other are looking for a couples costume, the lumberjack look might be just what you need. This look requires easy-to-find clothing and minimal effort. For starters, button up your flannel shirt to the top and tuck it into your jeans. Top your look off with a beanie and some thick boots and you’ll be ready to go. If you have the time, add fake axes, they’re the perfect prop.

Halloween was always exciting when you were a child, dressing up in cute costumes and trying to get the most candy possible. For some students, this may be one of the last times you have the opportunity to really dress up and celebrate, so don’t be afraid to go all out.
