Celebrities like Andy Samberg wore some of the best red-carpet looks at the 2015 Emmys.

Fashion at the 2015 Emmy Awards was a hit or miss. While some celebrities brought their A game, others made you wonder if they looked in the mirror before leaving for the award show.

Best dressed:

While tuxedos are a staple at any award show, this year textures and accessories helped to differentiate the seemingly similar looks. Host Andy Samberg and David Oyelowo paired their looks with crisp white button-downs and black bow ties.

Samberg complemented his look with a black geometric tuxedo jacket and fitted black trousers by Giorgio Armani. While Oyelowo’s shimmery, black Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo played up the textured style well.

Not everyone had the courage to pull off something as flashy as Oyelowo. For instance, Jon Hamm went for a more toned down look with a navy blue tuxedo by Tom Ford.

As always, the women’s outfits were almost all on point. Lady Gaga opted for a black one-shoulder gown by Brandon Maxwell, a stark contrast to her normally outlandish red-carpet looks.

She surprised the media with how simple her gown was and how her overall look wasn’t as extravagant as it has been in the past.

Kerry Washington was another favorite with her spring/summer 2016 gown by Marc Jacobs that was inspired by 1970s disco. The mesh fabric made the design unique with the sequined bottom and the high slit on the right side.

Taraji P. Henson rocked a new red carpet trend with silver metal chain straps on her custom Alexander Wang gown.

The chains create an edgier look, and the cut-out triangle on the front of her dress combined with the mesh on the bottom of her dress brought life to an otherwise black gown.

A similar version of this dress could be seen on Claire Danes. Her purple and navy sequined Prada gown also had chain link straps.

This year, makeup was simple, fresh and natural. Tracee Ellis Ross and Emma Roberts used this trend to naturally enhance their facial features.

Another popular trend was a classic smoky eye, which Viola Davis paired with a bold red lip.

Sleek hair was trending on the red carpet and added sophistication to the overall looks of the red carpet.

This popular and sophisticated look could be seen on Sarah Paulson, Jaime Alexander and Kieran Shipka. Hollywood glamour waves took center stage as well on Zoe Kazan, Taylor Schilling and Elisabeth Moss.

Worst dressed:

Heidi Klum wore a yellow Versace gown that had a fringed, long sleeve that looked out of place with the strappy gown. If this had been left out of the dress, Klum could have won a spot under best dressed.

Joanna Newsom had another look which could’ve thrived had it not been for the unnecessary details. The pleated bottom of the two-toned Delpozo gown seemed out of place.

The chest of her dress had an oval with a floral design inside of it, which made the gown look over designed.

Nazanin Boniadi wore a Stephane Rolland gown with one long sleeve, and it was not flattering on her figure.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the top half of the dress seemed to be completely split down the middle in the front, making it seem as if it were two different dresses entirely.

Ricky Gervais wore an unflattering, entirely navy outfit. The look could have benefited from a different color undershirt and the removal of his sunglasses.

Johnny Ortiz kept it too casual on the red carpet. Instead of the typical tux, he wore a pair of jeans with a lavender suit jacket and a purple button-down shirt.

The outfit would have been more acceptable had it not been worn to a formal event.

While there were definitely some questionable looks on the red carpet, overall this was one of the better award shows in terms of fashion.
