GAB hosts night of international desserts and games

The Gaels Activity Board hosted the second annual multicultural game night in the LaPenta End Zone on Jan. 21.

The event featured foods from around the world, all provided by Chartwells, including: gulab junam, peach cobbler, tres leches cake, zeppoles, Irish soda bread and baklava.

“Each club brings their own unique culture to the event, so each diversity club is basically representing the countries that are representative of their club members,” junior Shadeyka Warren, Multicultural and Diversity Chair for GAB, said.

Last year focused primarily on international foods, and this year was aimed at desserts.

“The food made me want to come,” said sophomore Donal Culhane.

The event, although hosted by GAB, included other diversity and multicultural clubs including the Hellenic Society, Black Student Union, the Hispanic Organization for Latin Awareness, Iona International and the Gaelic Society.

“The main goal of this event is to be able to incorporate all the multicultural clubs on campus, and use them in a way where they not only promote diversity, but unison as well, so students are able to come here, learn about all the other countries that are being represented today, and have a good time,” junior Jean Carlos Polonia, co-chair for GAB, said.

Accompanied with the food, students were encouraged to play the games of different countries.

“I enjoyed the card game at the table for Greece. It was fun to play and I had a great time with my friends,” said senior Amanda Furlong.

These games included Pictionary, dominos, Jenga, Connect Four and Koum Kun, which is the Greek version of Rummy.

Warren explained that the success of the event would dictate if students can look forward to events like this in the future.
