New York Fashion Week has wrapped up, leaving students to pick apart the runway’s hottest styles in order to gain inspiration for their everyday styles.

Black and white:

These colors were a common theme in the Michael Kors runway look. The outfits consisted of relaxed fitting pants with open toed shoes and either black coats or loose dresses.

Many of these looks were either sheer, or had significant cutouts in the outfit.

Brandon Maxwell’s designs had black as the main color in most of his looks as well. In many cases, the designer opted for outfits consisting of a blazers, trousers and heels.

Maxwell’s designs allowed for more exposed skin, usually from the blazers with no shirts underneath, but also with the sleeveless gowns.

Bright colors:

A trendy theme on the runway that can be easily incorporated into your everyday wardrobe are the vibrant yellows, pinks, greens and gold that could be found in Eckhaus Latta’s collection.

These colors could be seen in above-the-knee skirts, oversized jackets and sweaters and even shoes. Don’t let the short skirts with slits up the side or cropped sweats fool you, these looks are still perfect for the fall season.

Monochromatic:

The Kardashians rocked this look at NYFW in support of Kanye West’s new clothing line launch.

Matching the same colored top with a skirt, or the same color blazer with pants and a different color shirt underneath to break it up, can prove to be a really unique outfit.

Match your accessories to the main color of your outfit and you’re good to go.

Patterns:

Calvin Klein’s ready-to-wear runway looks were much darker tones of blue and black. Plaid was a common pattern amongst the looks, which could be found in dresses synched with belts and coats with fur collars.

Forever 21 has a variety of red and blue plaid dresses, which can be paired with belts, beanies and tights. Don’t be afraid to scour the store to find your perfect NYFW look.

“I look in magazines and usually I’m on Instagram and Twitter a lot. They give me ideas of what clothes I should buy next,” junior Carly Blesi said.
